2004 WWE Draft Lottery

The 2004 World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Draft Lottery took place at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on March 22 2004. The first half of the draft took place on live for two hours on WWE's flagship television program, Raw on Spike TV. The second half of the draft took place over WWE's official website, WWE.com, until midnight on March 22 2004. There were nineteen draft picks, with nineteen superstars drafted overall, between the promotion's two brands: Raw and SmackDown!. For the televised half of the draft, the General manager of Raw, Eric Bischoff, and the General manager of SmackDown!, Paul Heyman, drafted six superstars randomly via a machine.

Background

Wanting to "shake things up," Vince McMahon announced that a second draft was to occur on the March 22, 2004 edition of RAW in Detroit. In this draft, each general manager got six random lottery picks. Everyone was eligible for the lottery, including referees, announcers, and even the general managers.[1][2]

  • Triple H was immediately traded back to RAW by SmackDown! General Manager Kurt Angle in exchange for Booker T and The Dudley Boyz.
  • Paul Heyman immediately quit after being drafted to RAW.[3]

The RAW and Smackdown! General Managers agreed to two separate 4 superstar trades as part of the 2004 Draft Lottery.
