Kuma
'Tekken series character
First gameTekken

Kuma (クマ, lit. Bear) is the name of two characters in the Tekken fighting game series. The first Kuma is the second's father. Kuma shares some of his moves with Jack and Ganryu. However, with the return of Jack (in the form of Jack-5) and Ganryu in Tekken 5, their shared moves were differentiated. Kuma's attacks were changed in the way that they are executed in a more animal-like way, ie: instead of doing the normal hand sweeps and normal uppercuts that Kuma and Panda had in previous games, they now do swinging scratches in Tekken 5.

Kuma has the intelligence of an average, perhaps slightly dim human being, although this is obviously amazingly intelligent for a bear. He's pretty easygoing, perhaps even upbeat, although he's quite mocking and arrogant around Paul Phoenix. He adores Heihachi Mishima, however, and even though some of his endings might show Heihachi mistreating him, he's actually completely loyal to his master. Heihachi probably loves Kuma more than he does any member of his actual family.

History

Kuma

Tekken and Tekken 2

Kuma is Heihachi Mishima's pet. Raised and trained in the Mishima style of fighting arts, Kuma became an avid bodyguard for his master. In the first two tournaments, Kuma enters to defeat Paul Phoenix.

However, he loses to Paul in both tournaments, and shortly after, he dies of old age, leaving behind a young cub, who becomes a bodyguard in his place for Heihachi.

Kuma's Endings

Tekken

Kuma does not have an ending. After completing Story mode with Kuma, the credits will be shown.

Tekken 2

Kuma is training with Heihachi Mishima. Kuma performs a vertical punch and a vertical headbutt at the same time to break through some blocks of glass that are stacked up horizontally on the floor. Then, Heihachi throws two glass bottles into the air, and Kuma performs a headbutt that breaks both of them before they hit the ground. Then, Kuma throws a horizontal headbutt to break through a brick wall with a drawing of Paul Phoenix's face on it. This ending is identical to Paul's Tekken ending, but with Kuma and Heihachi in place of Paul.

Kuma Jr.

First gameTekken 3

Tekken 3

Learning of his father's defeat, Kuma Jr. decides to train with his master and enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3.

Tekken 4

However, he fails, and realizes that due to his docile upbringing by Heihachi, he could not utilize his animal instincts to his full potential. Leaving Heihachi, Kuma Jr. travels to the mountains of Hokkaidō to train himself, both mentally and physically.

Now hearing of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Kuma enters, more powerful than ever to defeat Paul. He succeeds, and he quickly returns home in triumph.

Tekken 5

Now learning that Jinpachi Mishima has taken over the Mishima Zaibatsu, Kuma once again takes his role of the loyal pet, vowing to return the syndicate to Heihachi by entering the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, but he is defeated by Paul.

Tekken 6

After the death of his former master, Heihachi Mishima, Kuma believed no one but he could rescue the Mishima Financial Group (MFG) from its captor. Eager to do just that, Kuma confronted the MFG.

However, the MFG's new CEO, Jin Kazama, was waiting.

Kuma was easily beaten and discarded in the Hokkaido wilderness. Though defeated, his fighting spirit was not lost.

Endings

Tekken 3

Ling Xiaoyu and Panda are walking away from the Mishima Polytechnical School. Kuma Jr. is waiting for them. He presents Panda with a bouquet of what looks like bamboo. However, Xiaoyu and Panda ignore him. A guy closes the gate to the school, and Kuma Jr. is still standing there, and he is not moving at all.

Tekken Tag Tournament

Kuma Jr. is dancing, and Heihachi, who is sitting down and clapping his hands together, watches him. They are in Jin Kazama's second Tekken Tag Tournament arena.

Tekken 4

After defeating Paul and winning the Tournament, Kuma Jr. set his sights on a new goal. 'Grrr...I'm gonna try my paw at corporate management!' Kuma Jr. arrived to claim Heihachi's fortune. He places his paw impression on many contracts (including two that gave Kuma Jr. all of Heihachi's assets and the New York branch of Mishima Zaibatsu). When Kuma Jr. saw the last one, he read it. It would give Heihachi all of his assets if he placed his paw impression on it. He refused to place his paw impression on it, and he placed his paw impression on Heihachi's face instead.

Tekken 5

Kuma Jr. becomes the head of the Mishima company. He reads a document, and he places his paw impression on it after reading it. Lee Chaolan runs up to Kuma Jr., and he informs him that Heihachi wants to see him. Kuma Jr. says "(Bring him here)". So Lee lets Heihachi enter the room. Heihachi walks up to Kuma Jr. and congratulates him for protecting the Mishima Zaibatsu for him. Kuma Jr. pushes a red button, and Heihachi falls through a trap door in the floor that was in front of Kuma Jr.'s desk. Lee gives Kuma Jr. a "thumbs up" gesture with one of his hands. One of Kuma Jr.'s servants offers him a fish, and Kuma Jr. opens his mouth to eat it. Then, Kuma Jr. meets the same fate as Heihachi when Heihachi climbs back up the trap door and presses another button (This time, it's blue and looks like the Start button from the PlayStation controllers) that sends Kuma Jr.'s fish, Kuma Jr.'s chair, and Kuma Jr. himself falling through another trap door in the floor that was behind Kuma Jr.'s desk and underneath Kuma Jr.'s chair. Heihachi climbs up the trap door that Kuma Jr. just fell through, and he says that as long as he is alive, he won't let Kuma Jr. do as he pleases. Lee gives Heihachi the same gesture that he gave Kuma.
