Eduard Thöny

Eduard Thöny (February 9, 1866—July 26, 1950) was a German caricaturist and illustrator known for his work for the magazine Simplicissimus, to which he was invited to contribute by Albert Langen.[1] Born in Brixen, in South Tyrol, he studied at the arts academy in Munich.[2] His work for Simplicissimus included more than 2,500 pages of cartoons lampooning German society and the military.[3] Thöny’s drawings would appear in the journal until it ceased publication in 1944.[4]
In 1904 Thöny traveled to Marseilles, Algiers, Tunis, Naples and Rome in company with fellow artists Ludwig Thoma and Rudolf Wilke.[5]
He died at Holzhausen on the Ammersee.[6]
