Colgate, an oral hygiene product line and one of the namesake brands of the Colgate-Palmolive Company, is a manufacturer of a wide range of toothpastes and toothbrushes.

Products

Duraphat

Duraphat is a professional strength paste intended for the treatment and prevention of dental caries. It comes in two strengths: 2800 and 5000. The toothpaste is ideal for the management of high-risk patients such as those with rampant, early, existing or recurrent coronal or root caries. Since it is used in place of regular toothpaste, it is an easy treatment regime for patients to comply with. The prime constituent is sodium fluoride and it is sometimes prescribed as part of a program of fluoride therapy. It is available as a prescription-only product[2].

Colgate Total

Colgate Total is a general-use toothpaste containing triclosan, sodium saccharin, low concentrations of sodium hydroxide, hydrated silica, and other polymers. It is also known for a controversial note on the back of its package: "As soon as you finish brushing, bacteria start to build up on your teeth and cause cavities, gingivitis, plaque, tartar and bad breath."

Colgate Cavity Protection

Although most Colgate toothpaste brands use sodium fluoride, the Colgate Cavity Protection variety instead contains sodium monofluorophosphate as the active ingredient.

Colgate Simply White

A whitening toothpaste that is "Clinically-proven to whiten in 14 days." Its whitening ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, which gradually bleaches the teeth. It utilizes two separare chambers that contain whitening agent and a cleaning gel.

Advertising

An advertising campaign for Colgate toothpaste from the 1940s used the slogan "It cleans your breath while it cleans your teeth". From the 1960s onwards, the slogan was "The Colgate ring of confidence". Also, They have a Toothpaste and toothbrush mascot for children's entertainment, "Dr. Rabbit". This character has been used many times on joke videos on Youtube (called "Youtube Poops"), where he is portrayed as a racist, a pedophile, or generally evil, though only in humourous or silly ways. Colgate keeps on removing those videos because of the copyright laws, and is suspending Youtube members for making Dr. Rabbit videos.
