The Operational manoeuvre group(OMG) fas a [Red Army] formation created in the period in which the [deep operations]theories were conceived. This concept was later influenced by [Blitzkrieg ] theories and echelon-based doctrine. Operational manoeuvre groups were inserted in the Red Army doctrine for a potential war against [NATO] in Europe;in fact,in the Soviet scheme,Shock or assault units,heavily supported by artillery,helicopters and CAS aircraft,the the operational manoeuvre groups would have exploited the breakthorugh and clearde the patch for [tank armies|tank army]. An operational manoeuvre group was normally made up of 2 tank divisions and 3 to 5 infantry divisions. In order to counter OMG's threat,NATO chreated a lot of [special forces] units with the task of saboting and attacking the logistical deposits (in particular fuel ones) so that the OMG advance would halt and permit NATO groups to counterattack
