Lefka, just like other Catholic settlements across Cyprus, became the Muslim and Turkish Cypriot stronghold since 1571. It is also the residence of Sheikh Nazim al-Qubrusi, Spiritual head of the Haqqani branch of the Naqshbandi Sufi order.
