Daniel Rahimi (Template:PerB, born 28 April 1987 in Umeå, Sweden) is a Swedish-Iranian ice hockey defenceman.
Personal life
Daniel Rahimi was born in the city of Umeå, Sweden to a Iranian father and a Swedish mother. As a player, he is a major fan of fellow Canuck defenceman, Mattias Öhlund since he was a little child.
Playing career
Rahimi was selected 82nd Overall in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.
Rahimi has great size for a teenager at 6'3", 213 lbs and plays a defensively-focused game. He is considered to be the protypical stay-at-home defensive defenceman, who makes safe plays over more riskier plays. He finished the 2006–07 season with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL, after his season with IF Björklöven in the Allsvenskan came to an end.
Furthermore, Rahimi is known for his big hits and very physical play. Rahimi is known to have a very aggressive mean streak, which results in him being penalized very often; Rahimi racked up 278 penalty minutes in 124 games with IF Bjorkloven in the Swedish Second Division.
He has decent skating and has been touted by Swedish scout Thomas Gradin as being extremely mature:
As a kid, he’s not really a kid in that meaning, he’s a grown up person for being at that young age. You don’t really need to put a lot more muscle on this guy because he’s not a slim guy, but he skates well enough to play in this league, the new National Hockey League as they say. So the only thing that he might, that he will not do as of today is chip in on the PP. On the other hand you need to have the guys who play the penalty kill too. That’s how I see him anyhow today.
