Writing
Writing the second record began in early 2007 in preparation for the band's headline appearance on NME's Indie Rock Tour, and consequently tracks "Steve McQueen" and "Revolution" were played on tour.[3] The band after their UK performances travelled to the USA to perform on a number of different tours, including the Vans Warped Tour.
The band returned to the UK in the August 2007 and continued work on their sophomore release with former member Alex Pennie[4] up until September 16th 2007 when it was announced that he had decided to quit the band.[5]
In October 2007 the band announced they had began working with a second guitarist, Paul Mullen of Yourcodenameis:milo, who was emphasized as not being a replacement for Alex Pennie, and in fact keyboard and synth duties would now be split between James Frost, Paul Mullen and Rob Hawkins.[6]
In an interview the band commented on the new songs status saying they are poppier than before, with some heavier songs and some more mellow songs. The band's drummer Iwan expanded on this saying "the pop songs are more poppy, and the heavier songs are heavier than before."[7] In Rocksound magazines the band revealed some of the structures to there new tracks, annoucing "We've got one song thats like Nine Inch Nails meets System of a Down", with the tittle track "This Is A Fix" using weird bursts and harmonies, the chorus of which has a four-four drum beat, whilst all other musical aspects are at a three-four beat, Hawkins also spoke of a hip-hop sounding song at the other end of the albums spectrum which he wanted someone to rap on.[8]
As of 1 March 2008 the band have completed their album and returned from their Los Angeles studio to begin promotion and touring in the United Kingdom. The album is set for release in August, with a song to be put on the band's MySpace in the coming weeks.[9][10] Rocklouder Magazine confirmed that the bands first single would be "Steve McQueen", first played on the NME 2007 Tour, as well as announcing a series of new tour dates in the Summer months.[11]
In June 2008, after the bands Club Tour they began work in studio on a number of b-sides to the album, presumably for the single release of Steve McQueen and further singles.[12]
Release
Guitarist James Frost announced a new single for a April/May 2007 release in an radio interview with BBC Nottingham, however the single, speculated to be "Steve McQueen" was never released. It was said to have been recorded with Alex Pennie still in the band and thus whether this version will be released at any point is not known.[13] The single "Steve McQueen" is now slated for a July 2008 release. The album itself was originally said to be released in June, however the bands label decided to move the release back to August, with the album being released the week prior to the Reading and Leeds Festival.[14]
Meaning
In an interview with Rocklouder.co.uk the band revealed the main theme of the upcoming album: "There’s a bit of an idea of something going on behind the scenes, like espionage or something like that. Bit of a war theme as well. Completely by accident, but it’s there. Kind of ties in with the album title, 'This Is A Fix'. There’s different layers of meaning to that as well. It could be a fix as in a repair, a fix as in a drug fix, something you need or a solution – there’s a lot of meanings to it. Frost: That all points to a few of the tracks, there’s one called 'Secret Police' and one called 'Bad Guy', which are tying in with the espionage thing, but then one about needing to enjoy yourself and get drunk once in a while and how everyone needs to do that’s another kind of fix, so that title is just from a line in the song, but it accidentally ties in with almost every other track".[15]
Artwork
The albums artwork has been worked on by Dave Bailey and is "nearly complete".[16] According to Yorkshire newspaper The Star, the bands artwork will be based around a double decker bus in a Meadowhall car park, the exact image however is still "under wraps".[17]
