Discovery Home (formerly Discovery Home and Leisure) was a television network on satellite TV and digital cable TV in the U.S. Run by Discovery Communications, which runs the Discovery Channel, it was the main competitor to HGTV. It offered programming ranging from do-it-yourself to cooking to interior design/landscaping to party planning.
The Discovery Home Channel was available in most areas of the United States through local Satellite and Cable providers such as, DISH Network, DirecTV, Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
Demise
Discovery Home was retired and its satellite carriage replaced by a Discovery-owned environmentally themed channel named "Planet Green" on June 4 2008.[1][2] The channel focuses on environmental issues and ecological living. Discovery is investing $50 million in original programming for the rebranded channel with shows such as a weekly eco-newscast series with Bob Woodruff of ABC News.[3][4] No Discovery Home programming carried over to the new version of the channel.
