Plot
Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is an analyst of CONTROL whom always hoped to be promoted to a Field Operative. He is a great analyst but not a good Field Operative. Many laugh at his ambitions due to him being quite awkward, clumsy, and not very bright. Despite scoring extremely well for the Field Operative test, Chief (Alan Arkin) decides not to promote him due to being such a good analyst and that Chief wants him to stay helping him in that way. Meanwhile, Agent 23 (Dyawne Johnson) arrives back at CONTROL headquaters from a mission. He is the top agent in CONTROL and is also a good buddy of Max. Max walks out of headquaters dissapointed that he has not been promoted and accidently bump into a lady jogging. He returns to headquaters only to fine out that someone had penetrated into CONTROL headquaters. He finds the lady that he had bumped into was actually Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). After finding out that some people are coming his way, he creates an akward diversion and accidently hits Chief in the head. The perpetrators had stolen the files of agents of CONTROL thus many of the agents identity is uncovered and is assainated.
Due to the uncovering of the agents, Cheif promotes Max and partners him with Agent 99 to go undercover to find out who has been supplying nuclear weapons to KAOS, CONTROL's nemisis. They travel to Russia and take him down and blow up the bakery factory which was a cover for a nuclear weapons factory. Chief sends Agent 23 to overlook the clear up of the factory but Agent 23 does not find any neclear weapon. Max is suspected of lying to CONTROL and being a double agent and is put in a cell to hold him. Meanwhile Siegfried (Terence Stamp) makes a treat that he is going to blow up Los Angeles and Cheif, Agent 99 and Aggent 23 goes to Washinton D.C to persuade the President of the United States (James Caan) to do something about it as the Vice President ifnores the threat. KAOS decides that since the Vice President do not believe them, he will set up a bomb at a concert to kill the President. Max escapes from the cell and locates Cheif to tell him of the bomb (he knew because of a radio transmition). Cheif trusts that Max is not a double agent and they set out to find the bomb in order to save the President and thousands of people there. The secret service claims that there is no bomb as they have check time after time before the President arrived. They go and try to figure out how to get into the concert when Agent 23 suggests that there is no bomb. This makes Max suspect that Agent 23 is double agent.
When Agent 23 finds out that his cover is blown, he grabs Agent 99 hostage and get the breifcase that holds the detonation to the bomb. After a action packed chase, with Max almost killed and Agent 23 killed, Chief, Agent 99 and Max figures out that the bomb is going to explode when the piece Ode to Joy hits the last note. They make a mad dash to the concert hall and Max pushes the conductor down just before they hit the last note. Max and Agent 99 starts dating and after a hilarious ending, the credits roll.
