The 1999 Open Championship (British Open) was a golf tournament held from July 15-18, 1999 at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. Paul Lawrie won his first major championship in a playoff over Jean Van de Velde and Justin Leonard. The event was headlined by Van de Velde's triple-bogey collapse at the final hole when he came to the hole with a three stroke lead.
