Konane is a two-player abstract strategy game from Hawaii. It is a distant relative of Draughts. The board starts off as a lattice of n x n alternating colored counters of two colors. For example, an 8 x 8 board of alternating black and white counters. Black starts firsts, and must remove one of its counters from the middle of the board, or from one the four corners. White then removes one of its counters orthogonally adjacent to the empty space created by Black. There are now two adjacent empty spaces on the board. All moves from here on are captures. Captures can be done only orthogonally, and not diagonally. As in Draughts, a capture is accomplished by jumping over an enemy piece, and landing on an empty space. Multiple captures can be done as long it is in the same direction. A player is not obliged to make multiple captures. Captured pieces are removed from the board. The player that can no longer make a capture is the loser, and the other player is the winner.
