Barry Nix (born Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England) was an English soccer defender who had an outstanding U.S. collegiate soccer career before becoming a money manager.

Soccer

Nix, a native of England, was recruited to play soccer at Columbia University in the United States. Over the course of his four year career with the Lions, 1978 to 1981, Nix established himself as one of the best collegiate soccer players. He earned first team All American recognition in 1978, 1979 and 1981 and second team in 1980.[1] He was also a two time Ivy League Player of the Year as the Lions won four straight Ivy League championships. In 1979, he was integral to the Columbia team which went to the NCAA Final Four. Nix was inducted into the Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame on February 18, 2006.

Investment manager

Rather than pursuing a career in soccer following graduation from Columbia, Nix returned to England where he joined Bear Stearns, moving up the ranks to become the company’s head of operations in Great Britain. He then moved to Nomura International where he worked for several years.
