Nicholas R. Evans (born January 30, 1986 in Template:City-state) is a first baseman and outfielder in the New York Mets organization.

Professional career

Evans was called up from the Double-A Binghamton on May 24 2008 to replace Marlon Anderson, who had been placed on the disabled list. He started in left field for the Mets and batted eighth.

Evans hit 3 doubles, 2 of them in his first two Major League at bats, both off Colorado Rockies pitcher Jeff Francis. Evans was the first Major League Baseball player to have 3 extra-base hits in his major league debut since then-Mets infielder Kazuo Matsui in 2004 [citation needed].

He was subsequently optioned back down to Binghamton on June 6 after batting .174 in nine games, but was again recalled July 8 after Ryan Church went on the disabled list.
