A county attorney in the United States is the prosecutor for a county or local judicial district. This role is performed by a district attorney or a state's attorney in states that do not use the term county attorney. In many states this is an elected position.

A local district attorney prosecutes violations of the law at the state and local level. Federal crimes are prosecuted by a United States Attorney.
