Template

I've temporarily solved it by moving the parameters around, though I don't know if this will be to the liking of the MLS people. However, it seems to have been caused by having parameters below the kits - if you have any idea how this might be fixed, have a play with {{Infobox Football club3}} and its effects on User:Number 57/Bury Town F.C.. Thanks for alerting me. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for your help

Could you take a look at this (trivial) debate and close it up please, so that people can get on with building an encyclopaedia rather than bickering and edit warring over trivial issues like whether British clubs should have F.C. after their names in the infobox. All the best. English peasant 20:50, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry to keep bothering you, I wonder if you could find any information on this player, he doesn't seem to have played for Estudiantes, and no longer plays for Treviso. Perhaps you could find out what happened to him, it's pretty misleading as is, (I couldn't find much about him in English or Spanish and my Italian isn't up to much). Regards English peasant 23:48, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This suggests that he has played 24 times, but his lack of profile at Futbol XXI suggests that none of these games were with Estudiantes in the Argentine Primera, so it seems he's only ever played for Club El Porvenir, they may have been professional in 05-06 but I'm not sure the whole league was, this kind of information is not the kind of thing that is easily obtained, hence my WP:FOOTYN suggestion that notability should be determined on a club by club basis, with the emphasis on the protectionists to provide reliable proof. I'd AfD it, but its much better that the majority of the misleading junk that anti-deletionists have fought hard to keep, without doing anything to improve so it would probably get kept anyway. I just get sick of maintaining articles about such non-entities. Regards English peasant 19:11, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Current squad and Navbox

Hi Angelo, I have been thinking about how frustrating it is to update player articles on wikipedia. The process takes a minimum of 5 steps to be done properly:

  1. Remove from old team Navbox
  2. Remove from old team current squad
  3. add to new Navbox
  4. add to new current squad
  5. Update player article

I have thought of an idea to make the process quicker for people like me who process hundreds of player transfers per transfer window.

The idea is to combine the functions of the current squad used on team articles and the navbox to make a template that can switch displays between something very similar to a current squad when you include something like club article=yes and as the navbox on player articles.

So the club article would have {{Argentinos Juniors current squad|club article=yes}} and the players would have {{Argentinos Juniors current squad}}. It would obviously be neccessary to put the [v] [d] [e] gubbins at the top of the club article template to make it easily editable.

The main benefit of this change would be to reduce the number of edits per transfer from 5 to 3, an additional benefit would be to make it impossible for the current squad and navbox getting out of sync, which is a constant problem in South American football articles.

I don't have the programming skills to design this thing, I hope you understand what I'm getting at and agree that this change would save a lot of editing time. Could you look into the possibility of doing this, I would be extremely grateful, and willing to do the edits necessary to roll these changes out for the Argentine Primera as a testing ground.

I raised this issue at Wikiproject football, where it got largely ignored, raised it with an experienced editor, who eventually tired of trying to work out how to do it. I am really hoping that you can help me with this, or at least point me in the direction of someone who can. Please let me know what you think, EP 00:34, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I take it you mean you don't want to see further proliferation of navboxes on player articles for minor teams, in which case I fully agree. Could you have a think about how we could code the new template, I know it needs switch functions, and some way of making the navbox ignore the {{fs mid}}. Perhaps you could work on a prototype, (my efforts have been futile) then we can take it back to WP:FOOTY and discuss restricting the use of the new template to fully professional teams? All the best EP 16:15, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

I am concerned about some of the pages you have protected recently. Initially my cocern was in relation to the John Terry article, which I feel is experiencing a fairly standard level of vandalism for a high-profile article (about 15-16 vandalism edits in the 8 hour between my unprotection and your re-protection). The discouraging effect on potential new contributors visiting Wikipedia to view the article, would seem to outweigh the small reduction in vandalism, which can be easily handled via the usual means. Having looked at your protection log, my greater concern is your protection of Juventus F.C., which you seem to have protected following a content dispute that you were involved with [1] [2]. The edits that you reverted do not seem to have been vandalism or to be otherwise disruptive, and there seems to instead be a disagreement between you and at least one other editor over when it would be appropriate to add Mellberg to the list. It this was a content dispute, then it would be highly inappropriate for you to use to protection to prevent the other party from editing. I would be keen to hear your thoughts on this. Best Regards TigerShark (talk) 22:03, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree because it does not seem deliberate misinformation (as you also seem to claim that he will join the current squad), rather it seems to be a content/style disagreement over when such information should be added. I think it would be useful to get other opinions, so have raised the matter here. Thanks TigerShark (talk) 08:04, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd really like to get some resolution on this, so a response would be appreciated. Could you clarify which of the Semi-protection criteria you are using to justify this protection? Thanks TigerShark (talk) 10:17, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I will unprotect them for now, but I preferred to speak with you first, especially as we have both protected/unprotected John Terry so I didn't want you to think that I was reversing an action on one article in response to you reversing one of mine. The thing with the edits is that they don't actually seem to be adding inaccurate information, rather that they are adding it in a way that is not standard practice (i.e. adding players to the current squad before the July 1st deadline). Does that make any sense? Thanks for the response. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 15:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conditions for Serie B Playoffs & Playouts

I thought the rules for potential Serie B Playoffs were as follows: a gap of 10 points or more between 3rd and 4th place and there are no playoffs, 9 points or less and we do have playoffs. Similarly, a gap of 5 points or more between 18th and 19th place and there are no playouts, 4 points or less and there will be playouts. Your edit on the Serie B 2007/08 page suggest new rules. I just want to confirm that new rules are in place. If so, the Serie B page should be updated as well. Juve2000 (talk) 14:21, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

could you please do me a favor?

Hello,

I am a master student at the Institute of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Currently I am wrapping up my master thesis titled “Can Wikipedia be used for knowledge service?” In order to validate the knowledge evolution maps of identified users in Wikipedia, I need your help. I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. Could you please do me a favor?

  1. I will send you a URL link to a webpage on which your knowledge evolution map displays. Please assign the topic (concept) in the map to a certain cluster on the map according to the relationship between the topic and clusters in your cognition, or you can assign it to ‘none of above’ if there is no suitable cluster.
  2. I will also send a questionnaire to you. The questions are related to my research topic, and I need your viewpoints about these questions.

The deadline of my thesis defense is set by the end of June, 2008. There is no much time left for me to wrap up the thesis. If you can help me, please reply this message. I will send you the URL link of the first part once I receive your response. The completion of my thesis heavily relies much on your generous help.

Sincerely

Come funziona Wikipedia in questi casi? Io voglio che questi mi lascino in pace!!! Grazie per tutto quello che potrai fare.--Luigi 28 (talk) 12:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jose Mourinho editor

Hi, i noticed this user was inserting football rumours and the like into the article. I agree these should be removed but the editor seems keen to improve wikipedia. Inexperienced users often make mistakes about what is appropriate in wikipedia, in fact i believe few of them realise wikipedia is actually an encyclopedia instead seeing it as just some website they've visited. While it is frustrating when people make disruptive edits maybe you should try telling them what they've done wrong and why (see the IPs talk page for my response). It often solves the problem and maybe we'll get a new editor of wikipedia; with much to offer. Still, the article should be locked as it's being vandalised frequently at the moment as i've seen from my watchlist. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 18:43, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, i have to agree that it does make the article worse: it's current trivia masquerading as a valid part of wikipedia! I guess there will always be people putting this kind of material in. However, the editor I was talking about seemed to present the material very well (in spite the fact that it shouldn't be there) so they could eventually become a useful editor instead of a nuisance. I understand your pessimism though. The football articles seem to attract these kind of edits, and editors, more than other articles do. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 20:37, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zeman's nationality

Hi. I couldn't find the guideline you were referring to at WP:FLAGS. Actually, it's only mentioned there that, if a person has recently emigrated, or if there is no evidence of gaining second citizenship, the use of flags should be avoided. Since Zeman has Italian citizenship since 1975, and has been living there since 1968, I really can't find a reason to omit Italian flag. It is relevant and it's definitely not overuse. Regards, --Vitriden (talk) 15:12, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but in that case, that's not a policy. I really don't know about Zeman's status in Italy, but in Serbia he was announced by the press as a Czech-Italian coach. And I think it is correct, since he has dual citizenship. But, I won't argue over something this trivial, so, if you think it's better to do it this way, it's fine by me.--Vitriden (talk) 15:29, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I know this is not your field of expertise but DreamBrother83 is uploading a large amount of images with false GNU labels. Can you do something about it? I've reverted the page to before the copyvio images were added and tagged many of the images but i can't keep up. Hope you can help. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 18:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much. That was getting a bit messy. Sorry to bother you about it! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 18:30, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:InternazionaleBadge.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:InternazionaleBadge.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beer category decision

As you took part in the last Great Beer Cat Discussion, I thought you might be interested in this one: A discussion has been opened on changes that have been made to the existing Beer category system. The changes reverse the decision made by the Project in April 2006. The changes were based on agreement by only two people, and by a discussion that took place outside the Beer Project. There may be some merit in the changes, and to prevent future conflict it is important that there is some discussion of the matter. If you're interested, please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Beer#Brewery_cats. SilkTork *YES! 18:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FOOTY discussion

Hi Angelo, not to sound annoying or anything, but I've recently started a discussion regarding the names of Brazilian clubs on wikipedia (here) and considering the scale and importance of the clubs involved and the fact that there is no formal move request, I thought it might be a good idea to inform some of the regular WP:FOOTY contributors in order to get a consensus and not just a few opinions. So if you could take a second to express your opinion, it would be appreciated, cheers. BanRay 22:25, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Angelo, i am very surprised that you deleted the worldscoccer.net url because there are so many links in the wikipedia sites for football players, which should be player profiles or statistic links but they are really bad because there is often no background in the statistics. You unterstand what I mean? For example there are listed matches only by one numer which isn´t even a hyperlink for further information. So why don´t you want my suggested link from a page which stats and worldwide range is much higher than most of sport or especially football sites. This site works a little bit like wikipedia. You can get by the links from one information to another without an ending. Perhaps you can take a few minutes and watch the site. I´m sure you will nearly find everything you wish, if you are a football fan. Sorry for my bad english. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cudeferro (talkcontribs) 10:29, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, i unterstand what you mean, but then I don´t unterstand the other links. For example: The FA profile, the BBC profile, tacticle profile at footballlineups, statistics at soccerbase and at least the fifa competition record. All these information of these pointed sites, you will get combined at worldfootball.net. But these stats are better because they are deeper. Thats why I don´t unterstand you handling the links. Why using suboptimal links if you can get better ones?
