Barhalganj is a town and a nagar panchayat in Gorakhpur district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Barhalganj had a population of 19,171. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Barhalganj has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. Barhalganj is situated in Lat. 26° 17' N. and Long. 83° 30' E. on the left bank of Ghaghra river, on the national highway 29 running from Gorakhpur to Mau at a distance of 61 km. south of district headquarters Gorakhpur and 40 km. frm Tehsil Bansgaon. The Development Block Barhalganj started funtioning on April 1, 1958. Barhalganj Block is under Lok Sabha Kshetra 37- Bansgaon and Vidhan Sabha Kshetra 165 - Chillupar Barhalganj is Connected to District of Mau by a bridge on river Saryu. Barhalganj has one post graduate degree college affiliated to Gorakhpur University. It has some excellent private hospitals with all facilities. Barhalganj is famous for it's market place(bazaar), people from nearby villages go to barhalganj for their marketing needs specially during festivals. Muktipath,a traditional hindu crematorium at the bank of River Saryu, sacred to the millions of hindus, is very famous and people from very distant places bring bodies of their departed ones for funeral amid chanting of mantras or hymn for salvation of their soul. Serene atmosphere of Muktipath provides solace to people in grief. Barhalganj has also some well equipped hospitals and specialist physicians who provide good healthcare services to people of barhalganj and nearby villages.
