Sebastien Bassong (born 9 July, 1986 in Paris) is a French-Cameroonian football defender who currently plays for FC Metz.

Sebastien Bassong is a left-footed centre back but who can also play on the left side of defence at left back. He plays at centre back for the French under 21 national team and has been likened to the Nigeria and Everton centre back, Joseph Yobo. Both players are good on the ball, like a pass and have good aerial prowess. Bassong is a real athlete on the pitch and is also very fast.

In July 2008 he was offered a one week trial at Newcastle United, and made his debut in a pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers. Newcastle fans weren't expecting him to play in that game and were were unaware as to who he was in the number 46 shirt. They made numerous songs and chants about him, one been "if 46 scores we're on the pitch".
