Jiangxi Yangtze middle lower flow's south. borders Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Fujian Provinces. Made a province in Ming Dynasty. Name comes from Tang dynasty, "west of jiangnan (south of yangtze)". Gan river is largest river in province. That's why abbrv is Gan. Area is 160, 000 km sq, population 37,710,000 (1993), contains Han, Hui, Miao, Yu, Yao ethnicities. Province has 6 cities, 10 towns, 74 xian.
east, south, and west of province has mountains, middle is hill, north is plains. mountains and hills are 70% of the province's area. In the east from north to south is Huang mountain's residual peaks.
Huai Yu Mountain, Wu Yi Mountain is from northeast to southwest. North's mountainous height not above 500-1000 m above sea lvl, towards southwest Pan Yang Lake plains.
