Youth Chance High School
Youth Chance, or YCHS, is a small alternative high school for "at-risk" youth in San Francisco, California. The school helps disadvantaged students of all races achieve success, by teaching them the necessary academic skills to pass the GED and/or CHSPE(California High School Equivalency Exam). The majority of the student body are young people of color. Most students pass the GED, with some finding success on the CHSPE. Many go directly into the workforce, enroll in a training program for various trades, or possibly attend San Francisco City College. The principal is Maureen Miller, a career educator who also serves as the school's resident Math teacher. Youth Chance is a project of the Embarcadero YMCA and is located at that branch in San Francisco's Financial District.
