Laurence Yep is a major Chinese-American modern author, and is acclaimed for his many works. Born as Laurence Michael Yep in San Fransisco on June 14, 1948, he was the youngest child of his family. Often, he felt ripped between both American and Chinese culture, and expressed this in many of his books. In high school, he began to write for a sci-fi magazine, and began his writing career there. He eventually earned a Ph. D. in English and thus began to write. The most notable of his books, though, is a series called the Golden Mountain Chronicles, which documents the story of the Young family from 1894, in China, to 1995, in America. Also, noted are the Dragon of the Lost Sea Fantasies, and The Chinatown Mysteries.
