Germany will compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. A total of 439 athletes were nominated to participate in the Games.[1] [2] The German National Olympic Committee (DOSB) nominated athletes on May 29th, June 23rd and July 15th 2008. Please note, that a won Quota place by IOC standards does not automatically mean that the athlete will be nominated for Beijing, as the DOSB has stricter qualification standards. An athlete needs to have a somewhat realistic chance for a top 12 position. An exception to this are the team events, as the number of competing teams is already very limited through the IOC standards, and a chance for a respective place is already given by the qualification.

Swimming

Women:

The athlete Vipa Bernhardt and her club SG Frankfurt filed a lawsuit seeking Bernhardt's nomination for the 200m Breaststroke, instead of Anne Poleska. On July 14th a court in Kassel, Germany issued a provisional order in her favor. However on July 21st Bernhardt and her club withdrew their lawsuit.
