Driving involves controlling a vehicle, usually a motorized vehicle such as a truck, bus, motorcycle, or car.

How to drive consists of knowing how to operate the mechnisms which control the speed, and direction, indeed the velocity in the technical sense as a vector consisting of speed and direction; and the braking of the vehicle, but especially of how to do so safely.

Skill at safe driving is necessary to avoid crashes with kill many thousands of people annually. Safe driving is much more than following the rules of the road; it goes beyond that into the cultivation of good habits, maintaining attention, and a thoughtful cooperative attitude that avoids and prevents accidents, defensive driving.
