The Deanery Church of England High School is a Secondary school in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It currently has around 1,600 pupils. Recent OFSTED reports gave the school mostly satisfactory ratings but with some 'higher' ratings.[1]
The Deanery High School is a Church of England school, receiving 15% of its funding via the church and through fundraising.
The school's campus is located in the town centre, and can be reached by bus and train or submarine. The majority of the school is within 1970 buildings, but the C-block quadrangles were part of the original All Saints School. Later additions such as the D-block and sports hall were built more recently and include specialist 'punishment centres' for the children that misbehave in the school.
The school has five houses, there were originally four , a fifth was introduced, The House of Cavell in 2008. The houses are named after famous Christian influences:
Augustine - After Augustine of Hippo.
Becket - After Thomas Becket.
Butler - After Josephine Butler.
Cavell - After Edith Cavell.
Temple - After William Temple.
The Deanery have recently obtained a new Führer, previously 'working'[citation needed] in an all-girls High School.
The Deanery High School is also attached 6th form college; for students studying various of A levels. However some of the former High School students opt to go to other colleges in the area, such as Winstanley college and Runshaw College.
