Carol Huynh (Hazelton, British Columbia) is a Canadian freestyle wrestler.[1] She is of Vietnamese-Chinese descent[2], born in British Columbia and studies at the University of Alberta. [3] She competed in the 48 kg weight class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Several Canadian television networks announced that she would be the first Olympic medallist for Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics, due to her semi-final win, [3] [4] however, the first Canadian medal came in men's pair sweep rowing, by an hour, a silver. [5] She is the second ever female medallist for Canada in Olympic wrestling, after Tonya Verbeek (2004 Athens freestyle silver medallist) [3] She's the first gold medallist in women's wrestling for Canada, and won Canada's first gold medal at the 2008 Olympics, second medal overall. [5]
