The Institute of Political Studies

The Institut d'études politiques d'Aix-en-Provence (Institute of Political Studies), also known as the IEP or "Sciences Po Aix", is a grande école in political sciences, established in 1956 in the premises of the former Faculty of Law of the University of Provence. Its main focus is on political science, but it also covers related subjects such as law, history, international relations and economics. It is located in the centre of Aix-en-Provence, directly opposite the Cathedral, Saint Sauveur. The IEP is associated with the Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III.

Teaching

The IEP provides students with a general training in law, economics, general knowledge and history. Its students are selected through a competitive entrance examination. Some of its students have become company directors or government officials: for example the current French minister of economy, Christine Lagarde, is a former graduate. However, many students also move on to careers in journalism, finance, diplomacy or communications.
