Spanair Flight JK 5022, registration EC-HFP, was a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 flight from Barajas Airport in Madrid, Spain to Las Palmas Airport, Canary Islands on 20 August 2008. The flight crashed off runway 36L of Barajas Airport during takeoff at 14:14 local (12:14 GMT). The fuselage is reportedly broken up into at least two parts. [1]The plane was reportedly carrying 164 passengers, including two infants and 9 crew members, with at least 45 reported deaths and 40 injured.[2][3] El Pais reported that the plane had attempted to take off at least once before the final takeoff.[3] Weather conditions in Madrid were fine at the time of the incident.[4]
