The 3 arrondissements of the Gard department are:

  1. Arrondissement of Alès, (subprefecture: Alès) with 12 cantons and 101 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 135,735 in 1990, and was 133,761 in 1999, a decrease of 1.45%.
  2. Arrondissement of Nîmes, (prefecture of the Gard department: Nîmes) with 24 cantons and 177 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 419,077 in 1990, and was 457,769 in 1999, an increase of 9.23%.
  3. Arrondissement of Le Vigan, (subprefecture: Le Vigan) with 10 cantons and 75 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 30,237 in 1990, and was 31,595 in 1999, an increase of 4.49%.
