Altaria, known as Chirutarisu in Japan, is a Dragon/Flying Pokémon, available in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It can be evolved from Swablu (Chirutto), at level 35, or caught in the fifth floor of Sky Pillar, where it can reach up to level 60, thus it is the highest-level Pokemon in the game save Rayquaza, and Kyogre and Groudon in Pokémon Emerald.
Name Origin
Altaria's name may have been derived from "altitude" or "alto", and "aria," which means "a beautiful melody."
Information
Generally, Altaria is an underused Pokémon. Its Natural Cure ability and its large "movepool" work in its favor, but its stats are not exceptional. Many people often use another dragon in Altaria's place. The one major thing Altaria is used for is to pass Dragon Dance on to Salamence.
In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, Winona, the leader of Fortree Gym, uses a Level 33 female Altaria that knows the moves Aerial Ace, Dragonbreath, Dragon Dance, and Earthquake. Altaria is also trained by Bird Keepers and Dragon Trainers, as well as the Elite Four challenger Drake. It can learn any move that Swablu can, as well as Dragonbreath and Dragon Dance. It is the only non-legendary Pokémon that learns Sky Attack naturally.
Appearance/Biology
Altaria appears to be a cross between a dragon and a bird. Its wings are not wings at all, but clouds that wrap underneath its body. Two tendrils, possibly feathers come off the back of its head.

- Altaria made a cameo in the movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker.
- Altaria is also one of Winona's Pokemon. Ash's Grovyle was able to defeat it in battle, dispite the type disadvantage.
