Inquiry

This page and others make reference to a military action known as “to spike guns,” for which no definition exists in Wikipedia. Clearly it implies some sort of damage to or destruction of artillery, but perhaps someone with knowledge of 17th-18th century warfare could provide a proper definition of the term?
