Jason Shawn Alexander or J. Alexander (B. 1975) is a painter, illustrator, draftsman, and storyteller from Tennessee.
Biography
Noted for his raw dipiction of the human figure and fervent style, Jason's paintings provoke the viewer. He is a working artist with no formal art education. His pieces are penetrating and emotive and unmistakably honest.
Recognized by his peers,[1] he is a Silver Medal Award recipient from the Society of Illustrators-Los Angeles as well as a nominee for two Eisner Awards. Not at all surprising to those who have seen Jason's work as Brad Martin, contributing writer for Juxtapoz Magazine, eloquently explains on his weblog, "[Jason's] gritty, drippy, and dark style lends an ominous air, like a fresh grave, and the subject’s poses humanize the whole thing. This is the whole package."[2]
In addition to commissioned and original paintings, he has produced illustrations for Dark Horse Comics, Warner Brothers, DC Comics, Hasboro, White Wolf, Inc, and Dalmatian Press. A self-starter, his creator-owned Empty Zone was published for years by Sirius Entertainment. And he won critical acclaim for his contributions to Poison Elves: Lusiphur and Linlith, written by Drew Hayes, also for Sirius Entertainment.
Recently, Jason completed his first screenplay and has begun writing and directing his second short film.
He currently resides and works in Los Angeles, California.
