Wheelchair rugby at the 2008 Summer Paralympics

The Wheelchair Rugby competition of the 2008 Summer Paralympics will be held in Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium between Sep 12,2008 to Sep 16,2008.

Classfication

Classification is an important work for paralympic athletes, after the classification, athletes can compete in a fair situation.
A certain committee will give athletes who can take part in this sport a 7-level-score range form 0.5 to 3.5, the less the score, the more disabled the athlete is.
The sum score of all players in the field can not exceed 8.

Event

Because of the classifications, there may be more than 1 medal in a single event. For example, only 1 medal will be given in the men's 100 meter in the Summer Olympics, but there will be more than 10 medals in the same event at the Summer Paralympics.

Qualification

There will be 8 teams taking part in this sport. Every team can have 11 male athletes or 12 athletes with at least 1 female athlete.

Competition Format

8 teams divided into 2 groups of 4 teams each, with a single round robin tournament, then the first two teams of each group compete for 1st-4th place,while the last two teams compete for 5th-8th place.
