Synopsis
Plot
In Command and Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, the story is based around Yuri coming out of hiding to take over the world by using his Psychic Dominators to mind-control the entire populous.
Allies
The Allied story begins with a surprised American Military caught off guard. The resulting effect is the fact that the United States cannot stop Yuri's psychic dominator network from going online. However, an airstrike on the Psychic Dominator on Alcatraz Island damages its power supply making it temporarily non-functional. The Allies find out about a device created by Albert Einstein that allows travel backwards in time. They want to use it to go back to the beginning of the events of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 so that they can stop Yuri's Psychic Dominators before they can be completed.
The Allies use the time machine and are successful in going back in time. There, they start fighting Yuri's armies to destroy them and prevent the completion of the Dominators. After fighting with them on every front, Yuri's armies begin to fall back. The arrival of Allied forces from the future drastically altered the events of Red Alert 2 and caused the Soviets to sue for peace. In need of more forces, the Americans ask for the help of the Soviet Union to destroy Yuri.
Bolstered by the additional forces, the American proceed to go to Antarctica to finish the last of Yuri's armies. They seize control of an abandoned Soviet base on the tip of South America to assist in the destruction of Yuri. With the use of Soviet technology and Allied technology Yuri's armies are finished and he is locked up in a specially designed cell, equipped with a Psychic Isolation Device to prevent him from mind controlling anyone, not even a fly, for supposedly the rest of his days.
At that moment, the timelines began to merge. As professor Einstein explained, "One series of events must take precedence over the other!" Fortunately, the new timeline replaced the previous timeline - rather than Yuri being alive and making an unwelcome announcement to President Dugan, it was General Carville's emergence that became important. Exact details as to the timeline merging remains classified.
Soviet
The Soviet story begins with the remnants of the Soviet military caught off guard by Yuri's forces as city after city falls under his control. The Soviet high-command organizes a strike team to slip into San Francisco Bay to enter the city. Once there, they manage to steal the Allied Time machine to reverse history and save the future (and alter it to the Soviets' pleasure).
After the time shift, the Soviet army takes special papers back to Moscow to have the Soviet leadership review them and properly stop Yuri. The first objective of the Soviets is to invade Germany to stop the efforts of Albert Einstein who is constructing a device to teleport Allied troops to Moscow to stop Soviet military aggression [2]. After the Allies surrender to the Soviets, the next target on the list is Yuri.
The Soviets fight decisive battles against Yuri from London, to Casablanca, and even to the Moon. They eventually corner Yuri in his hideout in Transylvania where they hope to finish him in his lair. After an assault on the Physic Beacons controlling both a Soviet and an Allied base, the castle is successfully destroyed [3]. However, Yuri is not found in the castle. A special transmission from underneath the castle shows Yuri has captured the time machine and plans to go back in time himself. However, this is stopped by Soviet intelligence who quickly use all of the power reserves of the time machine stranding Yuri in the Cretaceous Period, and it is implied that Yuri gets eaten by a Tyrannosaurus rex. Upon complete victory, the Soviets attempt to expand Communism to beyond the far reaches of space.
Cast and characters
In Command & Conquer Yuri's revenge, there is a wide array of characters portrayed through Full Motion Videos. The main characters in the game are Lt. Eva, Lt. Zofia, Premier Alexander Romanov, President Michael Dugan, General Carville, Yuri, and Agent Tanya Adams. All of the characters on the Allied and Soviet sides have a hatred for Yuri and do all they can to assist in the demise of the madman. As they go back in time, Yuri tries to either capture or mind control several characters to do his bidding and compromise that sides defences. However, every time a response is able to swiftly ensure no damage was done.
In their role in the game, Premier Alexander Romanov and President Michael Dugan are the leaders of the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Lt. Eva and Lt. Zofia are the debriefing and intelligence gatherers of both sides. Their mission is to assist the commander (the player) in knowing what exactly the mission is and where. General Carville and Tanya Adams are both in the military of the United States. Carville is a top ranking General who is a major force against Yuri and Tanya Adams is a special forces agent. Their efforts are key to the demise of Yuri. Lastly, Yuri is the main antagonist of the game. In both campaigns, he is defeated, in one by a dinosaur, and he is captured in the other one by combined Allied and Soviet military might.
However, Yuri is the main character in the game.
Gameplay
This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. (August 2008) |
The gameplay of Yuri's Revenge is very similar to that of its predecessor, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. The object of the game is to gather resources while training an army of your own to do battle. While this is going on, you must attack your enemies and defend against their attacks. This game, like real-time strategy games in general, requires much multi-tasking to ensure a victory.
