The HTC Dream (or HTC G1) is an Internet-enabled smartphone designed and marketed by High Tech Computer Corporation of Taiwan. The HTC Dream will be the first phone to the market that will use the Android mobile device platform.[2][3] It was released for pre-order through T-Mobile on September 23, 2008, and planned for availability in stores on October 22, 2008 in the US. It is priced at $179.[4] [5][3]

T-Mobile announced in August 2008 that they would produce the first smartphone to use Google's Android software, and that the mobile hardware platform would be provided by HTC. The T-Mobile offering is intended to compete head-on with the Apple iPhone. The phone is part of an open standards effort of the Open Handset Alliance. [6]
