Wikipedia:Requested moves
This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators. Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared. |
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- Thomas Arundel (archbishop) → Thomas Arundel — (Discuss) — Unnecessary disambigutation. — Srnec (talk) 04:44, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not clear that he is the most important Thomas Arundel. This should be discussed. 87.114.11.104 (talk) 08:16, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, just noticed that the others are all called "Arundell" (double l). The move isn't controversial and should go ahead. 87.114.11.104 (talk) 08:22, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Right → Rights — (Discuss) — target name is currently a redirect to current name; very old consensus on talk page suggested this move, but it never happened — Pfhorrest (talk) 08:12, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- That old discussion is very short. More discussion is needed. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:33, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hierarchic proportion → Hierarchical Proportion — Cut and paste move performed but reverted, cannot move using the move tab because the target page already exists. — Lithoderm (talk) 01:56, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Liga Deportiva Universitaria (Quito) → Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito — "de Quito" is part of the team's name, both officially and informally, as it is necessary to distinguish it from other Liga Deportiva Universitarias in Ecuador. Currently, the page with Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito as a title is a redirect to Liga Deportiva Universitaria (Quito). Digirami (talk) 10:45, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- The page was moved the other way in 2005, with the argument that "de Quito" is not part of the team's name. This moves seems slightly controversial, and it may be best to get feedback on the article's talk page. 87.114.155.75 (talk) 11:53, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I saw that move and have to state that the guy who moved the page probably had no idea what he was talking about. There are 6 Liga Deportiva Universitarias in Ecuador, making LDU, itself, a generic part of the teams name in the same context as FC in a bunch of other football team's name (like FC Barcelona or Manchester United F.C.). "de Quito" is part of the team's name and has to be part of the title. Period. Digirami (talk) 22:24, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Template:! → Template:Pipe — (Discuss) — The name of the template is "Pipe". The exclamation mark that is used in the current template name suggests that it has something do with easily inserting an exclamation mark in a page. The only reason why the template name uses an exclamation mark is due to a software limitation of the wiki as a template using the pipe character in the title (or Template:|) isn't allowed. As such, Template:! should just be a shortcut to Template:Pipe. — Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 19:04, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Mate (beverage) → Maté -LlywelynII (talk) 14:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Talk:Yerba maté displays the Latin American discomfort with the accented é due to its Spanish pronunciation, but also that all English authorities (OED, MW, EB, &c.) give maté as the proper English spelling; also has benefit of removing unnecessary beverage tag and putting page where most likely to be searched by native English speakers. Cf. WP:ENGLISH & WP:OR.
Other proposals
Please use the correct template; see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- Thomas Arundel (archbishop) → Thomas Arundel —(Discuss)— The archbishop is the only article spelt this way. --87.114.157.71 (talk) 20:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yasuhiro morinaga → Yasuhiro Morinaga — I mistake to create.14:19, 1 October(UTC)
- Discuss — I believe the television series is the more important subject. --gadfium 04:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Anti-conversion violence in India → Anti-Christian violence in India —(Discuss)— {{{3}}} --Googlean (talk) 04:37, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Please revert bad faith move, it is Anti-Christian violence in India only, which is the proper title reported by BBC, NDTV, Times of India such reliable sources. The conversion can’t be the title as it goes out of the subject and confusing. However, the conversion details has already included in the article. Additionally, if anyone searches for both titles in any search engine, the former comes with "Anti-Christian+violence+in+Karnataka"&btnG=Search&meta= (MORE) results. The new title has "Anti-conversion+protest+in+Karnataka"&btnG=Search&meta= (ZERO) results.
- Anti-conversion protest in Karnataka → Anti-Christian violence in Karnataka —([[Talk:Anti-conversion protest in Karnataka#{{{section}}}|Discuss]])— Please Revert bad faith move, it is Anti-Christian violence only, which is the proper title reported by BBC, NDTV, Times of India such reliable sources. - Support As above, this move was taken without discussion by the same disruptive editor. Gabrielthursday (talk) 05:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Support I moved the article again without realizing it was under Wikipedia:Requested Moves. I support this move, please move the article as you see fit once it's approved here. My reasoning is that the Christian community as a whole is being targeted, rather than only missionaries. --vvarkey (talk) 07:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The Catholic Bishops of Kerala do not think it is anti-Christian; but is anti-Conversion. [1]

- I've Got You Under My Skin (song) → I've Got You Under My Skin —(Discuss)
- I've Got You Under My Skin → I've Got You Under My Skin (disambiguation)
- The song is the primary topic for the phrase/title "I've Got You Under My Skin". The other uses are based on the song. --Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 00:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)}
- Flag of Ireland → Flag of the Republic of Ireland —(Discuss)— Article name is ambiguous - it suggests that the island of Ireland has a national flag --Setanta747 (talk) 08:44, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Mark Davis (1980s NBA player) → Mark Davis (basketball, born 1963) —(Discuss) — Reason for this move is to disambiguate this article from another NBA player, Mark Anthony Davis, currently redirected to Mark Davis (NBA). Assuming that the latter-mentioned is more well-known thereby more search-worthy than the former-mentioned, by what conditions affords its primacy over the perceivedly obscure Mark Giles Davis, who also played in the NBA? Mark A. Davis has only two references, one more than the "lesser known" 1980s Davis. Are we catering for a specific hardcore NBA fanbase with Mark A. Davis at the forefront of their minds by tailoring our search conditions, or we catering for the general reader? The current holder (Wknight94) of the status quo of the present title situation appears to have based his naming protocols in accordance with his own subjective view. The general reader would not be compelled to discern such a decidely minutial detail. See examples Marcus Williams (basketball) & Dee Brown (basketball). --Downwards (talk) 07:18, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- GABRIELA Women's Party → GABRIELA —(Discuss)— i suggest a move back, GABRIELA is the name of the organisation, 'GABRIELA Women's Party' is an apex body of the main org --Soman (talk) 06:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC) --Soman (talk) 06:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- The Closer I Get to You (Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway song) → The Closer I Get to You —(Discuss)— To replace inappropriate redirect, which was to Luther Vandross' Dance with My Father (containing his cover with Beyoncé Knowles) until I fixed it. --RBBrittain (talk) 02:13, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- William Boyd (musician) → Will Boyd —(Discuss)— over previous copy-and-paste move, per Wikipedia naming conventions for common names --Mr. Absurd (talk) 01:22, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- 2006 definition of planet → 2006 and current definition of planet —(discuss)— Title ambiguous.
- Alice's Restaurant → Alice's Restaurant Massacree —(discuss)— The song's actual name is "Alice's Restaurant Massacree", and while it is frequently called "Alice's Restaurant", that isn't the actual name of the song. And in any case, Alice's Restaurant ought to target Alice's Restaurant (album). --—/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 09:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Metzler Bank → Metzler —(Discuss)— Because that is the actual name of the firm. --Bender235 (talk) 18:49, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Israeli navy → Israel Navy —(Discuss)— See talk page (#Name of this article) - no objections for move for a month. Also in line with other major Israeli security forces units like Israel Defense Forces, Israel Police and Israel Prison Service. --Ynhockey (Talk) 17:27, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Mianus (neighborhood) → Mianus (Greenwich) —(Discuss)— Standard naming convention for all other Fairfield County, CT neighborhoods --Gjs238 (talk) 13:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Maria Theresa of Austria → Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria (Discuss) I will be bold and propose moving this page because: a) naming conventions (European monarchs whose rank was below that of King (e.g., Grand Dukes, Archdukes, Electors, Dukes, Princes), should be at the location "{Monarch's first name and ordinal}, {Title} of {Country}". Examples: Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria, Jean, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Maximilian III, Archduke of Austria.); b) there were three other women known as Maria Theresa of Austria, but only this Maria Theresa was Archduchess regnant of Austria. Surtsicna (talk) 13:00, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sud-Est → ? —(Discuss)— "Sud-Est" is extremely generic (it means "South-East" in French), lots of things can be referred to, this needs to be renamed, and a dab created in its place (from the hatnote). I suggest SNCASE or Société nationale des constructions aéronautiques du sud-est. —70.55.203.112 (talk) 10:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sud-Ouest → ? —(Discuss)— "Sud-Ouest" is extremely generic (it means "South-West" in French), lots of things can be referred to, this needs to be renamed, and a dab created in its place (from the hatnote). I suggest SNCASO or Société nationale des constructions aéronautiques du sud-ouest. —70.55.203.112 (talk) 09:46, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sámuel Teleki (explorer) → Sámuel Teleki —(Discuss)— Revert to previous name of this page. This person appears to be the primary usage for the name "Sámuel Teleki", with many incoming links from articles about Kenya etc and from evidence of Google search. The page was inappropriately moved to "... (explorer)" and a new page was created for the other holder of the name at the undisambiguated form of the name. I have moved the new article to "... (book collector)" as this seems the main thing the other person is famous for, and corrected all necessary links, and wish to move this article back to its original title. --PamD (talk) 21:36, 27 September 2008 (UTC) PamD (talk) 21:36, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Foghorn Leghorn and The Barnyard Dawg → Foghorn Leghorn —(Discuss)— The characters should have separate articles. --YuckieDuck (talk) 17:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Cedric Pioline → Cédric Pioline —(Discuss)— Move represents an accurate and verifiable proper name. WP:Requested moves/Tennis is in favour of keeping diacritics in tennis-related articles, and there are several English language sources which include the acute accent, including the publication The Guardian, other encyclopaedias, sports statistics sites, Yahoo, etc. --Maedin\talk 17:01, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Xiaxue → ? —(Discuss)— Should be located at her actual name rather than blogger screenname. Additionally, xiaxue is a Chinese phrase which can mean "It's snowing". ——/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 08:13, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

- Airbourne (band) → Airbourne —(Discuss)— Page has been moved once, then reverted due to a misapprehension that "airbourne" was a regional spelling of "airborne". As far as I know, it's just a pun, and the move should stand. Note that there is also an Airbourne (air show) linked from the header. --IMSoP (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

- O'Brien Trophy → O'Brien Cup —(Discuss)— 1. Name as shown on trophy is O'Brien Cup, indicating it was the name during its usage lifetime, which was some decades ago. 2. O'Brien Trophy is ambiguous with Larry O'Brien Trophy. --Alaney2k (talk) 00:15, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

- 1800s → 1800–1809 —(Discuss)— After several years of discussion, we now appear to have consensus from all involved parties on making 1800s and similar pages disambig pages; see WP:VPP#1800s. The preferred solution is to move the content of the current 1800s page to 1800–1809. Listing here to invite further discussion; the plan is to put the notification on the talk pages when we have consensus on exactly which pages will be affected. --- Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 14:46, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
