"Keeps Gettin' Better"
Song

"Keeps Gettin' Better" is the first single by American singer Christina Aguilera released from her upcoming greatest hits album Keeps Gettin' Better - A Decade of Hits.

Release and song information

"Keeps Gettin' Better" was produced by Linda Perry and written by Linda Perry and Christina Aguilera.

On September 5, 2008 the song leaked to the Internet and was premiered two days later at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.[1] Few weeks later, on September 22, 2008 the song was officially sent to radio stations.[2]

On September 9, 2008 the song was available for purchase on some countries, including the Australian and Canadian iTunes stores where it has currently charted at #2.[3]

Critical response

Billboard Magazine wrote following about the song: While it wouldn't make for an interesting album's worth of material, Aguilera's exciting performance of the song at MTV's Video Music Awards shows an artist that knows when it's time to change it up. Teamed again with the incomparable Linda Perry, "Better" should have no problem keeping company with Tina's rich catalog of hits.[4]

Music editor Nick Levine from British entertainment and media website Digital Spy welcomed the single writing: "[...]it isn't one of Christina's boldest singles, but it's a welcome change from what she was up to on Back To Basics and will more than hold its own on her greatest hits album[...]"[5]

Music video

According to RCA France the video for the single was shot the last week of September. The director for the music video was Peter Berg, the same director of the movie Hancock which starred Will Smith. There are currently no details on the video, neither its release date, although in an RCA UK Email newsletter it mentioned that the video will be 'hitting screens shortly'.

Live performances

Its first television performance was at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards on September 7th, 2008. MTV.com wrote, following her performance the next day:

"Christina Aguilera, who was poured into a second-skin leather catsuit accessorized with silver armbands, a black-leather cat mask, black gauzy cape and platinum-blond hair. Standing in a tower of neon-lit boxes, Christina gave a taste of the future-shock version of her first hit, "Genie in a Bottle," before slinking over to a glowing set to perform her new Goldfrapp-like techno dance tune "Keep Getting' Better."[6]
