Sears Grand
Sears Grand is an off-mall race-track style store version of "Sears," known for in mall settings. Originally created by Sears, Roebuck, & Company, the parent company of "Sears," Sears Grand stores range from 125,000 to 200,000 square feet in size, which is nearly double its sister stores in mall settings. Most of Sears Grand stores are located away from shopping malls, trying to recover customers lost to Target Corporation and Wal-Mart. Sears Grand stores offer typical store contents as a normal Sears store, but also hold a Garden Center and a Home Essentials sections. The home essentials section features goods from paper towels to fine wines.
In 2005, Sears, Roebuck, & Company was acquired by Kmart Holding Corportation forming Sears Holdings Corporations. Since then, Kmarts Executives, including Chairman Edward Lampert, have attempted to revamp brand and save on costs. Thus the Sears Grand line has been lulled in expansion, as they focus on Sears Essentials. Sears Essentials is basically a small Sears Grand, but are cheaper to open since they most utilize existing Kmart sites. In addition to the lull in Sears Grand expansion, Sears Grand has experienced content change in there Home Essentials and Garden departments, as they adopt to Kmart merchandise.
