Character history

Originally named Nico O'Neilly in the novel.

Nico is the editor-in-chief of the hot fashion magazine "Bonfire". Nico is a hard-as-nails, no-nonsense businesswoman who can hang with the best of the boys club. In the first season, her marriage is struggling because of her inattentive husband Charles. For that reason and probably more, Nico gets wrapped up with an on again off again affair with Kirby Atwood (Robert Buckley), an assistant photographer hired by Bonfire. In the closing of the first season, it is revealed that Nico ended the affair with Kirby in order to try fix her marriage with Charles because she realizes she owes this to him after he has a heart attack and she almost lost him.

In the second season, Nico is working on her marriage with Charles. She can not keep her affair with Kirby a secret anymore and decides to tell Charles. He tells her that he has never cheated on her and storms off to pack for the hospital where he will be having heart surgery. At the hospital, Nico sees one of Charles' students and realizes that he is planning to leave her to be with his student and their unborn child. But due to a complication with surgery, he dies. Nico rushes home and discovers that Charles knew about the affair the whole time and was planning on suing her for abandonment in order to get alimony. After the funeral, Kirby comes to see her and she tells him she wants to be friends while she works through her husband's death and his betrayal. As the season progresses, Nico realizes being just friends with Kirby is harder than it seems since he gives her back a part of herself she thought she lost. Meanwhile at work, there is new management and Nico does not get along with her new boss. She is losing some of her responsibilities and feels as though she will never get the promotion she deserves.
