Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an upcoming game for the Nintendo DS developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with Rockstar North, due for release in the first quarter of the 2009 fiscal year, which ends on January 31, 2009.[1] It is the tenth title in the Grand Theft Auto series and the fourth title released on a Nintendo platform, after Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 for the Game Boy Color, and Grand Theft Auto Advance, for the Game Boy Advance.

Plot

The story follows the character Huang Lee, a member of the Triads, who must deliver his recently-assassinated father's Yu Jian, a supposed family heirloom and sword, to his uncle Wu Lee. Huang is ambushed along the way, and he must not only recover the sword, but avenge his father's death in the process.[4]

Gameplay

Chinatown Wars is structured differently than previous games in the series. Instead of having a behind-the-player camera or top-down camera, Chinatown Wars uses an isometric camera angle. Chinatown Wars also uses cel-shaded polygons with black borders, unlike its counterparts. The title takes place in the Grand Theft Auto IV rendition of Liberty City, minus Alderney. Huang Lee will be able to recruit gang members from the streets and hire them in his own gang. The game will also feature a Tattoo mode. Unlike Grand Theft Auto IV, you have to disable as many cop cars as you can to get the cops off you instead of just escaping a zone. Also there are real lighting effects. The pedestrians actually buy food and have conversations. There is also a day-night cycle with real-time weather effects. The user interface is also said to be designed like a user interface of a PDA.[5] The game will feature shootable CCTV cameras which will work as this games secret packages, as well as helping with the drug-dealing minigame

Social Club

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has been confirmed to use Rockstar's Rockstar Games Social Club. However, the only known feature at this time is that players will be able to upload their gameplay statistics via the Nintendo DS's built-in Wi-Fi.[5]
