Game Development

It was announced on October 30, 2008 that Harmonix Music Systems is developing a thew firstmusic video game using The Beatles song catalog.[1]

The game will be released in Q4 2009, and will work with all Rock Band accessories, and incorporate many of the gameplay features of the Rock Band Series. [2][3] This game will not be an expansion pack for the Rock Band Series, as Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos has stated that this game "...is a new, full game title production built from the ground up,"[4]

Conception

The game was conceived with input from former Beatles' Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and Giles Martin. Martin, the co-producer of The Beatles LOVE project, will serve as Music Producer for this project.[5]

John Drake, PR spokesperson for Harmonix stated that ""We've been in talks with them for a very, very, long time. Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones was saying that they respected and appreciated what Harmonix does creatively for rhythm games...being pioneers in the field, bringing the full band experience, and we, of course, are colossal fans of the Beatles so there's not too much to think about why it's a great deal. From a PR perspective it is amazing that this has not leaked out in 17 months. This is the happiest day of our lives."[6]

Track Listing

The game will draw from Beatles recordings while they were with EMI (1962-1969). Variety Magazine has reported that the game will include 45 master recordings, which marks the first time that any of the Beatles catalog has been offered in digital form.[7]
