Early Life
Anderson was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of Kent Teffler Anderson, stockbroker, realtor, and tax preparer, and Nancy Carlsson-Paige, an early childhood education professor at Lesley University. In an interview with Mail on Sunday, Anderson stated that his grandfather is probably the most "impressive person he knows," stating, "He's Finnish, a very proud man, who would never take help from anybody. He came to America when he was a little boy, grew up during the Great Depression and sold shoes. He always used to tell us the story about getting a raise of three and a half cents, and how that was an incredible moment of success. He's extraordinary." Anderson is of English, Finnish, and Scottish ancestry. Anderson has a brother, Kyle, who is an accomplished sculptor and artist. He and his family lived in Newton for the first two years of his life, but after his parents divorced, Anderson and his brother moved with his mother to Quebec. In Quebec, Anderson met Todd Karich who introduced him to the sport of floor hockey and teaching health. Anderson and Karich are still good friends today, and infact teach at the same school. Anderson played hockey for 18 years and then retired in 2004, but then came back on a dare from Tony Sandrin and dominated the high school record book. Shattering the most points in a game (15) and the most amount of time spent in the penalty box in one season (92) with one game totaling to over 17 minutes for major game misconduct.
