Miss Colombia 2007

Taliana was crowned as Miss Colombia on November 12, 2007, after beating out Maria Cristina Diaz-Granados from Bogotá for the title; thus bringing the first crown to her home department of Magdalena, Colombia. During the three-week long competition, she was also awarded with the Miss Elegance and Best Face awards.

Miss Universe 2008

In the competition, Taliana was awarded the 3rd best body; while, Mexico took 1st. On July 14, 2008 during the final ceremony, Taliana received the highest scores in both the evening gown and swimsuit competitions. She walked in her golden wavy gown to which judges awarded a 9.829[5], one of the highest scores achieved by any contestant in recent years. In swimsuit, she was awarded 9.433.

Despite earning the highest scores during the coronation ceremony, Taliana finished as the 1st runner up to Dayana Mendoza, from Venezuela who won the title of Miss Universe 2008. Critics say Vargas lost her title due to her insecurity to answer the final question.
