Hi!

This is my talk page. Please leave messages for me here. I will respond here unless specifically requested otherwise. 'nuff said. :)

Thanks for uploading Image:SAWaste Logo.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Updated the infobox with all the fields, as well as explained the use of the logo on the SA Waste Holdings (Pty) Ltd article. I hope this is satisfactory.

References

Hi, you recently added an unreferenced tag to Harry Howard (footballer). Agreed, it doesn't have inline citations, but it does have a References section containing two book sources, each with relevant page number, which I'd have thought was pretty adequate for a four-line stub and infobox. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies :( I see now that there are references. I probably should have used a different template. I'll remove the tag anyway. GrahamDo (talk) 14:56, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked due to open proxy

I received a notification today (And it's not the first time) that I have been blocked from editing because of the meta:No open proxies rule. The last time this happened, I contacted User:DerHexer about it, and his response to me was that port 80 was open on my IP address. He ignored my attempts to explain why. So I'm explaining why here:

  • I use an ADSL connection with a dynamic IP address
  • I have a home network, with two PCs on a LAN connecting through a Windows Server 2003 machine with Internet Connection Sharing enabled
  • I run a website http://www.communicate.za.net/ from that machine (And use a Dynamic DNS-type service to update my DNS server (http://www.everydns.net/) whenever my IP address changes)
  • Port 80 is open to allow users to connect to the above website. To the best of my knowledge, the only IP addresses that are allowed outgoing access through that server are in the 192.168.4.* range

If any users online can use that server as a proxy, to connect to the Internet at large through, I'd appreciate it if someone with technical knowledge can help me to disable it. If not, then I ask that the block be lifted, as my server is not an open proxy! GrahamDo (talk) 11:07, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wary of overturning a block by a steward--but I'm going to talk to DerHexer and see if he can change it to a soft block so you're at least able to edit. Blueboy96 11:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Endorse Unblock Request This user is clearly a valuable user and this type of block, unless the user really is editing under an open proxy, is not in compliance with the blocking policy Mww113 (talk) 14:01, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm looking into requesting IP block exemption for your account. Please stand by. Anthøny (talk) 14:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unblocked - see below. – Anthøny (talk) 15:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I have lifted the block on 198.54.202.30; you should now be able to edit.

Request handled by: Anthøny (talk) 15:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but what if my IP address changes again? Does it run the risk of being blocked after a few days? May I make a suggestion that authenticated and logged in users be exempt from the open proxy rule? GrahamDo (talk) 19:52, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the Non-free use rationale template to all of the above images. GrahamDo (talk) 06:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:CallieMemorialPhoto.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:CallieMemorialPhoto.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've put this photo back on the Ashley Callie article. I feel it's perfectly relevant there.

I've put this picture back on the Ashley Callie article. I don't think it's a WP:BLP issue at all, and I think it's perfectly relevant for the article. GrahamDo (talk) 05:32, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
