Edible Images are a type of decoration found on confectionery products such as cookies, cakes, or pastries. They are created with an "edible printer," a specialty device which transfers an image onto a thin, edible paper. The paper is typically a rice paper or wafer substance, while the ink is usually concocted from soy products or egg whites and food coloring. Edible images have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and carry its Generally Recognized as Safe certification. A typical edible printer will cost approximately $320, with paper costing around $75 for 100 sheets. Edible ink cartridges can be found for $15.
