Bransty is a suburb of Whitehaven in Cumbria, England. It is an average council estate. The centre of it, The Green, is a meeting place for children to play football and games. It contains Three forests, built around North Road and South View Road and Earls Road. Bransty School is on the top half of Bransty. It is a Primary school and specialises in helping deaf children, although deaf children only make up a small minority of the school. The headteacher is Mrs Coates.
Bransty is located on the coast front of the town with fantastic views what overlook the Irish Sea and has great views of Scotland and the Isle of Man on clear days.
Bransty has a local pub, The Bransty Legion Club which is the home for the local Football sides Bransty Rangers. The football pitch is behind the legion cutting down the field. There are 7 fields next to the football pitch which are used for farming. The football pitch has currently been extended due to work on the cliffs Due to safety conditions of houses on the wagon road.
Bransty is also the Home of prolific cage fighting brothers Martin and Kevin Thompson who both hold British titles and train from the Whitehaven team supreme gym on Bransty. The Brothers both hold brilliant records and have been tipped to be fighters to look out for in the future. Kevin The eldest brother also represented the Great Britain Amateur Rugby team in the tour of South Africa this year and plays club rugby for Wath Brow Hornets.
Bransty was also known for its bakery and post office which back in 2005 closed and was refurbished into houses.
Bransty Rangers Football Club comprises many age groups from under 8's up to under 16's, also Girls teams . The open age team plays in the Tesco county league on Saturdays and plays in the Egremont league on sundays Who is coached by locals Eddie holliday and Micheal Burns and chairman of the club is Russel Matthews. They have brought some successful players through the likes of some playing for Workington Reds in the past/present such as Chris Thornton,Jonathan Wright,Andrew Coyles (Now coaching at the university of cheshire), Matthew Harrison (Former reds reserves and also played in America for a year). Also Whitehaven rugby league player Craig Hodgson played through the ranks and still plays sometimes now.
Bransty New Legion is situated at the top of Bransty which is a members bar and his used for parties etc. also for local meetings and have darts,dominoes and pool teams which have been successful in the past/present also hold bingo nights and acts every month for member/non members which have proven to be a success. The Legion also does meal through the week and on Sundays.
Bransty has a small childrens play park which is situated down from the football field, which have great views of the harbour and the sea.
