Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport (FAA LID: 55J) is a public airport located three miles (5 km) south of the central business district of Fernandina Beach, a city in Nassau County, Florida, United States. It is owned by the City of Fernandina Beach.[1]

Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport was developed as a training facility by the United States Navy during World War II. The airport was transferred to the City of Fernandina Beach in 1944. It is a designated general aviation reliever airport for Jacksonville International Airport.[2]

Facilities and aircraft

Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport covers an area of 602 acres (244 ha) which contains three paved runways[1]:

  • Runway 4/22: 5,300 x 100 ft (1,615 x 30 m), Surface: Asphalt
  • Runway 8/26: 5,001 x 100 ft (1,524 x 30 m), Surface: Concrete
  • Runway 13/31: 5,152 x 100 ft (1,570 x 30 m), Surface: Asphalt

For the 12-month period ending June 30, 2000, the airport had 47,000 aircraft operations, an average of 128 per day: 96% general aviation, 3% air taxi and 1% military. There are 68 aircraft based at this airport: 84% single-engine, 9% multi-engine, 4% ultralight and 3% helicopter.[1]
