Former shows
"The 33 & 1/3" This was the first Dance music countdown show on BPM, which ran from 2001 to 2006. The program aired on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and counted down the top 33 & 1/3 songs (actually 34; 33 1/3 is the RPM on a Dance 12" single, hence the show's name). In between the tracks, 5 new singles that was being tested as feedback for listeners called "Wannabes" was featured, along with a flashback of a number one song that reached the top spot on the show a year earlier.
The Spin Factor - A two hour Dance music countdown, hosted by Alan Freed (who is no longer with BPM), showcasing the top songs on BPM based entirely on requests and user input. It consists of approximately 28 songs and the #1 song from one year prior. This program replaced "The 33 & 1/3" in January 2006. In 2006, "The Spin Factor" aired every Sunday at 3pm ET, Monday at 6pm ET, and Monday nights at Midnight ET. The Spin Factor was discontinued in January 2007; Its last weekly produced countdown program was December 24, 2006. No reason has yet been posted.
Awards
BPM has twice been the recipient of the annual International Dance Music Awards' "Best Satellite Dance Channel" award (2004 and 2005). This is notable for the fact that the award has been offered only twice and the award is voted on by the general public. BPM was the favorite of the other XM Dance Cluster channels nominated - "The Move" and "The System" - as well as the dance channels on competitor Sirius.
BPM was nominated as a contender for the 22nd Annual International Dance Music Awards' "Best Radio Station" award for 2006 (all radio awards were combined into one category) but did not win.
Other broadcast platforms
BPM was included in almost every XM cross-promotion previous to the 2008 merger and can be heard by subscribers to DirecTV Satellite TV (ch. 859), on three U.S. airlines: JetBlue, AirTran Airways and United Airlines, and on supported devices by users of AT&T, Sprint (for Sirius users) and Alltel wireless.
Sirius XM Merger
On November 12th 2008, BPM merged with Sirius Channel 36 The Beat. Several new shows and on-air personalities were added to the BPM lineup. According to on-air advertisements the new combined channel is available on XM channel 81 and Sirius channel 36. Currently, there is a petition for subscribers to call up Sirius-XM upper management to restore The Beat due to many Sirius subscribers being upset with the switch to BPM. The reason is that BPM is not playing the same library of music that The Beat did and along with Mr. Seth and Good Time Marcus not on the channel anymore. The number to call Sirius to get The Beat back on is 1-888-635-5142, which is the executive customer service. A live person will answer and is taking a list of subscribers, along with Dish Network subscribers, of who wants The Beat added back. You can also call and/or the CEO of Sirius-XM, Mel Karmazin at 212-584-5100 and/or mkarmazin@siriusradio.com to leave him a message about this change. Many subscribers have called this the "Dark Period" of Sirius radio.
However, many XM subscribers are unhappy with the merger with Sirius. Many complain about the lack of innovative programming that Sirius has brought in the merger. With BPM replacing The Beat on Sirius, many subscribers are unhappy with the new progamming lineup and are disappointed with the programming shift of DJ Armando's "Addiction" mixshow to the late night instead of the drive home, a more primetime slot.
