Some advice for anyone wanting to create articles about Afghanistan districts (there are currently over 300 without their own article).
- We seem to have settled on including the word "District" (upper-case D) in all article titles. See Category talk:Districts of Afghanistan for discussion of naming conventions.
- As this article makes clear, district numbers and boundaries seem to change very frequently. This Excel file is the most up-to-date listing I have found (June 05), and also shows where districts have been split, moved from one province to another, etc. Unless anyone finds anything more recent, it should be used in preference to any other on the Afghanistan Information Management Service website.
- Different transliterations are common. Eventually, we'll need redirects from all the possible names. Most articles on provinces of Afghanistan now contain a list of districts - let's try to make sure that these point to the name that the article is created at, otherwise we'll likely get lots of duplicate articles created.
- UNHCR District Profiles are available for many (though by no means all) districts. In some cases they will relate to districts which have since changed name, moved to other provinces, been split up, etc., so check with the above listing. Used with caution, the UNHCR profiles are a hugely valuable source of reliable information.
- Don't assume anything listed on the AIMS site as "coming soon" is necessarily coming soon, or that anything listed as current is necessarily current. Most things on there are dated - that's your most reliable indicator of what's up-to-date.

- Hey OpenTop - can you confirm that the maps shown HERE reflect the new changes to the districts? :) Rarelibra 12:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hey OpenTop, i've checked all the references that you posted and it's indeed the most recent up-to-date info I've ever seen ever since after June 2005. However, what confuses me a bit are the districts that are in the following format:
- districts from the "329" column merged parts of it with another district to create a new district of the "398" column, regardless of province (in the same one or multiple)
- districts from the "329" column splitted to create more than one new district of the "398" column, regardless of province (in the same one or multiple)
