Standard Cyclist Biography
Hi Drunt, I noticed that you changed the palmares of Patrice Halgand & Mikhail Ignatiev. In your summary, you refer to the Standard Cyclist Biography page, but that page clearly says
...Sometimes the list is sorted by race, sometimes by year, chronologically or anti-chronologically. As far as I saw, (but it is NO rule), mostly retired cyclists have a chronologically victory-list, while active riders have an anti-chronologically victory-list. I see no good reason to prefer either one, so choose for yourself. Don't just change the order because you don't like it...

- The last sentence says "Don't just change the order because you don't like it" and that's what you did(if I didn't missunderstand the edits). But if you prefer it your way there is no problem with me. User:Pie.er and User:Severo were working on a couple of articles to have something like a template for cycling riders... but I think they are no longer working on it. The riders are Michele Bartoli and Francesco Casagrande. I'm not an expert on that matter so... it's just that I had Ignatiev on watchpage and I saw you were editing some articles. I have no problem with new articles or those without 'palmarès'. Sorry anywayDrunt 16:48, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup edits
Hi, thanks for your recent additions to the number of articles about cycling races. I have a lot of them on a looong list to do, so was amazed when I saw that you had started to so many! Linking in infoboxes is contentious, WP:MOSLINKS and WP:IBX are the guidelines on this. MOSLINKS suggests that you should only link at the point that people would want to take the temporary detour, which I believe is not at the infobox as that misses the point of the infobox - speedy retrieval of facts. As such it is written into the style guidelines of the particular template (at Template:Infobox Cycling race). It's not that I'm totally against linking in infoboxes, more I think one of the reasons for infoboxes is standardisation, so either they should all be linked or none of them... I tagged a few articles with {{MOSLOW}} because yes, as you say, they are organised 2007....1952 rather than 1952...2007. We used to have a problem with cycling articles in that all these used to be all over the place, but thanks to work (particularly by Pie.er) most are now correct and standardised. The organising of the biography you mention looks fine. I'll come back to your last point a bit later - I have to go out for a ride with my sister now and if I don't get a move on I'll be late! Regards, SeveroTC 10:20, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, thanks for the input. I've already fixed some mistakes I made in some articles. I will also join 'cycling project'. I still have some more articles to create (hopefully soon we will have almost all 1.1 races edited). I hope I could add more images to the articles but it's hard to find images without coypright. Sometimes I've also had problems regarding the names of races... but I usually use the common name (used in media). Thanks for all!--User:Drunt 12:40, 10 August 2007
- Nice one! Thanks for your work so far, all looks great! I know what you mean about images, sometimes it is possible to find image on flickr, but when someone comes to review them, the photographer has changed the permissions and you can't use them! Race names can be a bit arbitrary, there has been discussion at WikiProject Cycling before and there isn't a strong consensus. Thinking about the race classification, I'm not sure whether we should add a field in the infobox, or just annotate the difficulty after the competition (for example UCI Europe Tour 2.1) or in the type field (Stage race 2.1). Because it's a bit of technical jargon, we need to be wary that people who aren't really into cycling will just see it as a random number, but I agree that is is a useful addition to the box. Come to think of it, I do have an idea of what we could do. We could create a difficulty field, but only display it after one of the fields I just mentioned. In doing this, we could easily change the field or even put it in its own line in some point in the future if we wished without changing loads (possible hundreds) of infoboxes (if you see what I mean). SeveroTC 14:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ooh, I was also thinking of another infobox you could perhaps help me on. Articles for specific races (usually named something like 2007 Tour of Antarctica) don't have an appropriate infobox yet. I was thinking one would be useful to indicate date, length and winners. Would you add any other fields? Thanks, SeveroTC 15:30, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean by 'but only display it after one of the fields I just mentioned'? Anyone it sounds fine. Regarding infoboxes... I haven't experience editing that kind of articles so I don't know right now... date is a must. So is winners. Maybe director, an image for the edition? It's complicated because not every race has the same jerseys(for example, Vuelta a España has no 'young competition'). Maybe there should be a template for the classics/one-day-races and another one for Tours(2 or more days)? I don't really know, you probably have more experience! But I think that maybe length is not that important in multi-stage races... but very interesting for clasicsDrunt 18:57, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ronde van het groene hart.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Ronde van het groene hart.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:33, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
GP de Fourmies
Holy smokes! Nice job on the GP Fourmies!! You really did wonders with it. Much obliged. Peace, --Dylanfly 15:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- When you have edited some cycling race articles... it's pretty easy to change the article to the proper style :) --Drunt 21:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Mongol poster.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mongol poster.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Before the UCI
I always find the time before the UCI really confusing when it comes to the world championships. This page called 1927-1995 as professional and 1996 on as elite. The only results I get back when I google for amateur world cycling championship is anecdotal results, mostly about Merckx or Ullrich or random people having placed 24th or whatever in a particular edition. The UCI annoy me in that they make nothing of their rich history... SeveroTC 20:07, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- The UCI website is just a big mess and it's really slow. And their contributions to cycling in the last few years have just been quiet stupid. The best website to look for that kind of data is memoire-du-cyclisme.net (french). Here you may find some useful information about world championships url. Although it's a bit confusing... I think it's all the data there. I hope it helps :).Drunt 20:17, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Abudhabiraceofchampions.jpeg
Thanks for uploading Image:Abudhabiraceofchampions.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:33, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

changing
I'm not planning on changing anything, but sometimes when I see an incomplete list I will expand it, that's all. Iameddie (talk) 09:35, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you are adding all U-23 category races, so I'm sure you could expand all lists to infinitum. By the way, what's your source? I don't know any website with all that u-23 information.--Drunt (talk) 09:57, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of doing anything wrong, and if I do please tell me what exactly is wrong. Is it wrong to have some u-23 information there? I'm pretty new here, so I might do something wrong. Anyways, my source is The cycling website Iameddie (talk) 10:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- It's great to have all those U-23 results but the problem is that you always change the style of the palmares when you expand it. Anyway, this whole changing thing was to point out that you could try to follow Template:Palmares start (the part about how to display years. The way you display results is ok).--Drunt (talk) 11:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- And you could use wikilinks. They are great to move between articles. Regards.--Drunt (talk) 11:03, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I checked and I see what you mean, but I wonder in your system, how do you show it when a rider has a 2nd place in a race? What I do now is the following. I add results from single day races when they are 1, 2 or 3 and in multiple stage races I only add them when they are 1 in a stage and when they are 1, 2 or 3 in the final general ranking. From what I see you only add the 1st places in your system, but I think in single day races and in general rankings pos 2 and 3 are also important. Iameddie (talk) 16:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

- To tell the truth I don't know exactly which data should be added, there is no guideline right now. But usually it depends on the rider. As I said I was only concerned about the style to display results. But I think that third place in a U23 event is just too much data (unless we are talking about the important events like Avenir, Tell or
Montañes). Regards.--Drunt (talk) 18:40, 21 January 2008 (UTC)- OK, well the main reason for the different lay-out was that it saved quite some time to do it like that, but if it's better to do it the other way I guess I have no choice of changing it in the future. Maybe it's a good idea to do it in the current style when an article already exists, but for a new rider my lay-out can be used, which later can be changed? Anyways, I'm glad you praise the time I invested in this, because at first when I saw your message I thought you were kind of whining at me while I took the time to add more information. But now I see you did it with the best intentions for the website, which is good ! Iameddie (talk) 01:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Another editor has added the "{{prod}}
" template to the article 1995 Paris-Roubaix, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 19:59, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
1995 Paris-Roubaix
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article 1995 Paris-Roubaix, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}

Speedy deletion
Hi there, I notice that you tagged Template:REG for speedy deletion without giving a reason. I have not been able to find a reason why this page should be speedily deleted, so I have removed the tag. If there is an actual reason from WP:CSD that this page should be speedily deleted, please re-add a tag from that page which gives the exact reason, or use {{db|insert reason here}}. Alternatively, you can use WP:TFD instead. Thanks! — Tivedshambo (t/c) 22:30, 24 March 2008 Tivedshambo
- Sorry. I forgot to add the reason. That team disappeared some months ago and it's an Orphaned template right now.--Drunt (talk) 22:51, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's not reason for speedy deletion, but I have taken it to Templates for Deletion, where you can suggest to delete it (as I have done). SeveroTC 22:54, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was looking for a template that automatically deletes the article/template after a week if nobody changes it (like the one you used for 2006 Giro del Piemonte).--Drunt (talk) 22:57, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's a {{prod}} template, but when I tried to put it on the {{REG}} template it came up in big words saying it wasn't allowed to be used on templates, a bit silly really as deletion is a mere formality as there's a clear precedent for not keeping nav templates for defunct teams... Ivan Basso
That was my bad, I was really in a rush and was on the wrong person's page. Yes, I did read that he has signed with Liquigas and he will ride with them next year in the Tour De France. Quite the team they have going... Kreuziger and Nibali, woah. Manchester.united69 (talk) 14:57, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Paris-Roubaix
Hi. Thanks for the kind words. I've added a section on Les Amis, as you suggested. I find photographs so infuriating to upload that I have more or less stopped bothering. I have better things to do than fight my way through ever more obscure instructions and warnings! Others manage OK, so it's obviously me. Shame because there are doubtless copyright-free old pics about, as you say. I have some here, in fact. happy days 07:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)les woodland
Whither Mr Drunt
Where do you come from, with such excellent English? Les woodland (talk) 15:13, 15 December 2008 (UTC)les woodland
- I'm actually from Spain and I'm trying to improve my english while I contribute to the Wikipedia. I usually spend my time on the Wikipedia updating the biographies of the current cycling stars. By the way, I'm very impressed by the last additions to the Paris-Roubaix article by both you and [User:Autodidactyl]] (not to mention all those other cycling articles you have improved). It's pretty amazing to have a real cycling historian contributing to the Wikipedia, great job!
- P.S: I hope you don't mind me asking a question about cycling, but I've always wondered where the term 'Monument' of cycling comes from and maybe you know the answer. Who decided that this five races were the 'cream of the crop'? And who started calling them the 'monuments of cycling'? Was it because they were the oldest? And is there any consensus of which races can be considered the Classic cycle races or even 'semi-classics'? Any one-day cyling race? Regards.--Drunt (talk) 20:21, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
