List of Phi Kappa Psi chapters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Addbc (talk | contribs) at 01:38, 16 December 2008. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This list is a sortable table of the chapters of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity including for each chapter: the U. S. state where located, the chapter name, a link to the chapter's website if extant, the year chartered, the active/inactive/suspended/colony status, the college or university where located with a link to its Wikipedia article, the town, the total number of initiated members, any years inactive, and any notable facts. This table can be sorted by any of these attributes except the last.

All Phi Kappa Psi chapters are in the  United States. Chapters are named by a combination of the state name and a Greek letter assigned in Greek alphabetical order corresponding to the time of chartering. For example "Texas Beta" is the second chapter chartered in Texas, Beta being the second letter of the Greek alphabet. An undergraduate chapter becomes inactive when it relinquishes its charter or the charter is revoked by the fraternity, but the alumni of that chapter remain members of the fraternity with that chapter designation,

Explanation of Table

In this table there are chapter status codes in Column D, headed with the the quadthorp (pound sign) | # | :
a = active
C = Colony
i = inactive
s = suspended.

To sort this table:

To sort by the data in a particular column, click on the "bow tie" icon that is at the top of that column below the column heading. To toggle between an ascending and a descending sort, click again on that icon. The icon will become a triangle with side down and a point up if the sort was ascending, or a point down and a side at the top if the sort was descending.
Nested sorts are possible by first clicking on the desired lower level sort columns then on the desired higher level sort columns.
Examples:
  1. To group chapters by states with chapters ordered by their year of charter (which is the same as putting them in Greek alphabetical order by their Greek letter name) click "Year Chartered" column then click "State Sort Code" column. (This is the order seen when this page is first opened or is refreshed.) (To put in Latin (European) alphabetical order, click "Chapter Name" column instead of "State Sort Code" column.)
  2. To get an alphabetized list of colleges and universities that have Phi Kappa Psi chapters separated by state, click "College" then click "State Sort Code"
  3. To order the chapters by the number of their total initiates click "Initiates".
  4. To divide a list into Active Chapters, Colonies, and Inactive Chapters, just click on the "#" column sort icon after generating the lists
  5. To get a list of states in the order in which they first got a Phi Kappa Psi chapter, click "Year Chartered" then click College (ascending). (The state headings will be grouped together because none of them have a college designated.
Table data dates and accuracy

  1. ^ The State Sort Codes in Column A are of two types. For the lines with Chapter names the codes are the first four non-blank letters of the state name unless two state names have identical such letters, in which case the last letter is the first unique later letter in the state name. For the lines with the STATE headings the codes are the same as for the lines with the Chapter names except that the last letter is decremented one place in the alphabet.
  2. ^ Names of chapters chartered through 1991 are from Anson & Marchesani 1991.
